Governor Brian Sandoval proclaims March 11 through 17, 2018 AmeriCorps Week in Nevada

Nevada, Statewide, March 9th, 2018 —Nevada Volunteers is pleased to announce Governor Brian Sandoval has proclaimed the week of March 11th through March 17th, 2018, as AmeriCorps Week in Nevada. We will be celebrating the week with a social media takeover. Each day next week an AmeriCorps member from a different program from throughout the state of Nevada, will take over Nevada Volunteers social media showcasing their service in their local communities.

This year in Nevada, 327 AmeriCorps members will help to meet local needs at 78 host sites in 11 counties statewide. Thanks to AmeriCorps members, over 640 children and youth will be mentored, more than 800 people in rural communities will have assistance finding healthcare options to fight opioid and prescription drug abuse, and 2,700 acres of land will be cleared of invasive species and other fire fuel hazards.

Nevada Volunteers certifies Immunize Nevada as a Service Enterprise

RENO|LAS VEGAS, February 21st, 2018 – Nevada Volunteers, the Governor’s commission on service, is pleased to announce Immunize Nevada has achieved certification as a Service Enterprise, testifying to the fact Immunize Nevada has effective volunteer management processes in place. As a certified Service Enterprise, Immunize Nevada leverages volunteers and their skills to strengthen organizational capacity, better deliver on the organization’s social mission, and offer the volunteer a more fulfilling experience.

Nevada Volunteers presented the Executive Director, Heidi Parker, the Service Enterprise certification on February 21st, 2018. Immunize Nevada is Nevada’s sixth certified Service Enterprise and joins the national network of only 340 organizations certified as a Service Enterprise.

“Committing to and completing the Service Enterprise process not only has created a culture of volunteerism throughout our entire organization, but it also positively impacted how our entire team approaches volunteer roles and responsibilities. 2017 Governor’s Points of Light Awards Finalists Announced

RENO|LAS VEGAS, August 26, 2017 — Nevada Volunteers, the Governor’s Commission on Service, is pleased to announce the finalists of the 2017 Governor’s Points of Light Awards, the highest honor bestowed on a volunteer in Nevada. The award is given in 7 categories: Northern Nevada Individual; Southern Nevada Individual; Rural Nevada Individual; Nonprofit and Community Organization Volunteer Program; Corporate Volunteer Program; Volunteer Program Serving Veterans; and Volunteer Manager. Finalists will attend the Governor’s Points of Light Award Ceremony on October 5, 2017 at the Flamingo in Las Vegas where the award recipient for each category will be announced.

The Governor’s Points of Light Award Ceremony honors individuals, community-based organizations and businesses for their contribution to communities through volunteer service. Award recipients are selected by a panel of leaders in business, government, and nonprofits from across the state based on criteria showing how their volunteerism exemplifies achievement, need, innovation, mobilization and endurance.
